Public or Private?

For quite a while now, I’ve been trying to make up my mind whether or not I should restrict access to the alumni site’s listings.

It wouldn’t be anything ironclad, just a single box asking viewers to enter Webster’s zip code before they could view people’s profiles.

Recently the number of people who have expressed an interest in privacy has increased and I would like to accomidate their needs in away that would hopefully keep them listed on the site. Installing the simple zip code check would remove listing details from search engines which would make it harder for stalkers, weirdos and nosy people from finding the site.

The problem is, by making the listings private fewer alumni might find the site and add their information.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A new blog

For quite a while I have wanted to put together a little blog so that I can from time to time keep people up to date on the alumni website, share a bit of Webster News and let people know about some of the other projects I’ve been working on.

Believe it or not, the alumni site is close to its 10th anniversary. Over the years I’ve tried very hard to make updates to the site as frequently as possible. The past few months have been especially busy for me. Aside from the alumni site, I maintain several large website (www.universitydistrict.org and www.oeffa.org) and usually have several other projects in the works.

Things will hopefully calm down a bit in the near future and allow me to pay greater attention to the alumni website.
